I am doing this as a test of what can be done with free (and/or very cheap) tools in development of websites and the marketing of those sites. So my first task was to get a free WordPress blog. I normally use the Adobe CS3 suite for web development but for this project I’ll find some other stuff from sourcefotge and other sites.
One of my motivations is that I have to do a project for a friend in producing an HTML email template he can use for free. Another is to help market my other sites by potentially giving myself some backlinks from here.
One challenge is that when you have multiple sites on the same server with a static IP (I’ll explain all this jargon later on – for now the assumption is that you are quite internet savvy) the spiders discount your backlinks and may even call it spam.
I don’t know if the above is true but it is safer to assume that it is. If I were designing the google algorythm (that Shangrila of all SEM secrets that we would all like to penetrate) I may think about something like that. So having this blog allows me to have links from a different server.
But the main point is to see what can be done with free and cheap tools.
