Long tail – IV

December 26, 2008

Yesterday I spent quite a long time doing research and discovered a keyword which does not have a lot of pages on Internet relative to number of searches each day.  I don’t know if this is long tail, going  for something quite popular or what.  In time (it takes months for the organic search position to settle down and get decent statistics) I’ll let you know how things go.

OK I’m baring my marketing knowledge here (it’s not much at this time buy will improve) because so few people read this blog and there is always enough to share.  If you find the information on this site useful please link to it and more importantly go to one of my commercial sites bellow and give me a backlink to them.

Back to the long tail which is selling very few of lots and lots of things vs. selling many many of very few things.  Of course it would be much better to be able to sell many of a few objects. However, in order to do that you need a huge marketing budget. So if you have a small marketing budget go for the long tail. It is especially best to go where there is little competition and then the question becomes how much research you need do to find great niches vs. having a shot gun approach.  I do not have any answer to that yet so I’m experimenting with both and I’ll report once I have some statistics which makes sense.

Here are some new store sites I have added.

To use or not to use

Paypal that is….

I was reading or listening to a online marketing tutorial and they suggested that we don’t use Paypal. Previously I have used single Paypal buttons or their shopping card with no problem but now I’m looking at using Paypal on OsCommerce shopping cart and I have ben holding the phone for more than an hour. I talked to three Indians (two ladies and a gentleman) who were zero or less than zero use. Do not get me wrong there have Indian call centers who knew exactly what they were doing but in this case they were clueless.

I’m still on hold and am thinking of changing my plans and going with a different solution even if it costs more. It just does not seem to be worth the hassle. The only reason I’m still listening “on hold” is that I have the speaker phone on and I can write this post while I’m waiting.

Can anyone help me?

First question is anyone reading this using OsCommerce?
Second: who uses Paypal Website Payments Standard with any third party shopping cart?
Third: This is the 64K question: who uses Paypal Website Payments Standard with OsCemmerce?

OK on more thought (as I was waiting for a very nice American lady to answer) I think the problem is my own misunderstanding. I’ll add more when I succeed in this integration.

As usual this too shall pass.
